ASK NDE’s TECHNICAL EXPERTS
NDE’s technical team receives enquiries on a daily basis that require input from a stainless steel specialist.
Below is one of the questions that we received together with the response from our technical experts.
Q. Will the use of LDX (Lean Duplex) make any difference against microbial corrosion in tanks made of 316/316L?
A. The only advantage in using LDX 2101 is cost. Its resistance to bacterial attack is about the same as 316L,
with the advantage that it is resistant to stress corrosion cracking which 316L is not.
To increase the bacterial corrosion resistance you would need to use Alloy 2205.
